Proposed Practice Merger

 

We would like to announce some changes we are proposing in order to create a stronger, more resilient Practice and secure Primary Care services for our patients into the future.

 

This week, we are making our patients aware of the proposal to merge with Barnwood, Heathville, London and Saintbridge Medical Practices on the 1 April 2018.

 

Background

 

With the growing complexity within Primary Care and a rising population it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage a small Practice and offer a good level of care to patients.

 

We believe a merger would create a more resilient and sustainable Practice with the resources and expertise needed to manage all the demands of General Practice, both administratively and clinically.

 

It would also increase our ability to forge closer and better co-ordinated partnerships with a range of providers of community services and support for the benefit of local people.

 

Proposed Practice Merger

 

Over the last few months, we have been talking to the GPs and staff from Barnwood, Heathville, London and Saintbridge Medical Practices in Gloucester about merging our four practices together.

 

During these discussions it became clear that all the surgeries shared a similar approach to patient care.

 

After careful consideration, we have reached the conclusion that a merger would be a very positive development and believe it would not only secure the future of the Practice, but also enable us to offer a better service to all our patients.

 

What this Means to You

 

This does not mean that any anyone registered with us would be removed from our patient list.

 

The same Doctors, Practice Nurses and Staff would still be part of the new team. You would be able to see your chosen Doctor as usual.

The principles of quality and personal clinical care would continue to be of uppermost importance to the new Practice and our aim would be to enhance services and flexibility whilst ensuring stability for our patients. An enlarged Practice will also allow us to improve access to services.

 

The proposed new, combined Practice would have one patient list and a new name – we would be very happy to receive your suggestions for this.

 

The Practices are enthusiastic about the proposed new Partnership. We would work closely over the coming months to integrate systems and combine processes. Our main priority would be to ensure a seamless transition for our patients and minimise any disruption.

 

We see this as an opportunity for us to build a secure future and a Practice better able to manage the challenges of the NHS and offer the best for our patients with excellent resources.

 

There would be a new combined practice boundary drawn to include all the areas currently covered by the 4 Practices. You will be able to attend the surgery building which best suits you.

 

Benefits for Patients

 

In summary, we believe the merger would:

 

  • enable us to offer a greater range of services to patients
  • enable us to provide greater choice of appointments
  • create a wider range of skills and expertise in the Practice, with more secure staffing levels
  • help us to make better use of staff time
  • enable us to use our resources more flexibly to meet patient demand.

Emergency Appointments

In other news, we have just joined a new scheme, Choice+, through which we can offer some urgent appointments each week in Matson or Eastgate Street. You may find that you are offered such appointments when you need to be seen urgently.

 

Electronic Prescriptions

Another new scheme, open to all, is the ability for us to send prescriptions electronically to a pharmacist of your choice, anywhere in the city, and indeed further afield if needed. A few medications are currently excluded from the scheme (controlled drugs and private prescriptions), but it is already proving to be very popular. If you wish to take advantage of this scheme talk to your pharmacist or the receptionists.

 

Patient Online

Have you registered? Once registered for online services you can request repeat prescriptions and book appointments easily via the web. You need to have an email address, and bring proof of ID to the surgery, with the application form which is available via the website or from the receptionists.

You will also be able to see a summary of your notes too – but before you can access this you will need to tell us that you want to. We need to add certain codes to you notes to enable the system to function.

 

Test Results

Blood test results are generally available 2-3 working days after the sample has been taken (with some exceptions). Please ensure that you phone reception on 337777 after 10am to check that the result is ok, or to arrange to speak to a doctor or nurse about them. Urine tests, X-ray and scan results may take a little longer, but again please speak to reception to check them.
